Black Desert Online – Playing Again

Branching Out From ESO

A couple of weeks ago I downloaded two MMORPGs because I feel like I need to start playing other games besides the Elder Scrolls Online, due to not liking the direction that ESO is going. Those two MMOs are Final Fantasy XIV and Black Desert Online.
I’ve played both of these games before and so I wanted to give them another chance, especially to simply enjoy playing casually.

Returning to Black Desert Online

I played BDO when it was first released and, while I did enjoy it, I didn’t stick around long. The graphics are beautiful, the character customization is very in-depth and unique, and the combat system is fun as heck, however the quests are, well, they are downright boring. I don’t like that the NPCs you talk to do not have any spoken dialogue (I guess ESO spoiled me in that regard,) and I have heard from many sources that the game is very grindy and time-consuming. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I’m kind of over dedicating a lot of time to getting the best gear in games. This is why I will be trying to simply stay casual in BDO as well as FFXIV. In a way, I think I will enjoy the games much more that way.

Black Desert Online Characters

I have a few characters in BDO, but I have only really tried playing

BDO witch

Witch and Tamer. I think by far my favorite class is Witch. There is just something about zapping monsters with lighting, or hurling fireballs at unfriendlies, that is just so….satisfying!

Because I am kind of addicted to creating characters, I made a new Witch named Eira_Seren. Another one of my gripes with the game is the naming tool. The game does not allow you to put spaces between words, so I had to put an underscore, which just looks ugly.

Another character I just made is a Sorceress

bdo sorceress
named Eira_Rhian. I’ve never played a Sorceress before, but
I look forward to learning how to play one. This is the character
I will mainly be using for my YouTube videos, although I will probably record some videos with my Witch as well, since i just love playing her!

Enjoying the Experience

The main reason I say that I’m going to be playing these games casually is because I became too “serious” about the Elder Scrolls Online for a while, almost to the point of obsession. I didn’t mean to, but I did become very competitive in the game, constantly wanting to get the best gear for my characters, to the point where it was no longer enjoyable for me.

I don’t want to do this anymore. I think it eventually ruins my love for a game, and so I hope with BDO and FFXIV, I can just enjoy playing these games when I want to and not taking them so seriously.  At the end of the day I think games are meant to be fun. You can be competitive and aim to be the best, but when games start making you feel negative emotions, then there is a problem.
